Krista Obenlock, DSOM, LAc
Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture
Dr. Krista Obenlock (she/her) is a board-certified acupuncturist and doctor of East Asian medicine with a deep commitment to holistic, trauma-informed care. Her journey to Chinese medicine began with a passion for mental health, which led her to earn an honours degree in psychology and spend nearly a decade working with neurodivergent and developmentally disabled communities.
While living in China and later visiting Portland, Oregon, Krista encountered Chinese medicine in a way that resonated deeply—offering the kind of transformative, whole-person healing she had long sought to provide. She went on to relocate from British Columbia to Portland to pursue graduate studies at the National University of Natural Medicine, where she completed both her master’s and doctorate in East Asian medicine.
Dr. Obenlock specializes in palpation-based acupuncture and classical Chinese herbal medicine, with a clinical focus on identifying and treating the root causes of pain and dis-ease. Guided by the principles of classical Chinese medicine, she views healing as an integrative process—one that involves not only physical recovery but also emotional clarity and deepened self-awareness.
Central to her practice is a commitment to patient empowerment and collaborative care. She believes in honoring each individual as the expert of their own experience, and she offers her patients a space that is both clinically grounded and compassionately held. She is passionate about the inherent de-pathologizing structure of Chinese medicine and offers her patients perspective through this lens whenever possible. Her doctoral work explored the application of Chinese medicine to mental health, reinforcing her belief in the inseparability of mind and body—a perspective that shapes her approach in every treatment.
In addition to acupuncture, Dr. Obenlock offers custom herbal formulas, supplement protocols, personalized nutrition and lifestyle guidance, and incorporates a range of supportive therapies, including cupping, moxibustion, gua sha, and gentle bodywork techniques drawn from craniosacral therapy, myofascial release, and Sotai—a Japanese system of neuromuscular re-education.
Her mission is to help patients not only feel better but also reconnect with their bodies and their inherent capacity to heal.
